University Lecturer and Honorary Consultant Urological Surgeon

I am an academic urological surgeon with a specific interest in kidney cancer. I lead the Cambridge Renal Cancer collaborative (CamRenCan) a grouping of 40+ colleagues from across the Cambridge Biomedical Campus undertaking shared research toward the common goal of optimised management of patients with initially localised renal cancer. I have expertise in methylation, protein and transcriptomic biomarker development in both the prognostic and predictive settings. My group are developing, in collaboration with STEM colleagues, a series of novel early detection tests for kidney cancer that would be delivered as point-of-care tests. These early detection modalities will dovetail into our ongoing programme of research around screening for kidney cancer. The aim with all of these approaches is to lead into clinical trials to confirm survival benefits to patients with kidney cancer and make positive changes to the management of this lethal disease.
